My Wall Rendering Father and Me

My name is Doudou, a girl from Tongnan County, Chongqing City-- the hometown of Chairman Yangshangkun. 

Although it is the hometown of a Chairman, Tongnan county develops not well at all and is still one of the  poorest counties in China. 

Poor as it is, the county is our childhood paradise, and also a place our fathers love forever.

They come back home once a year, or even several years a time, because they have to leave home and work  on construction sites faraway in order to raise the family.

People call men like my fathers “migrant workers” but I was proud to call them “wall plastering workers”.  Today, I know that children 

like me in the countryside are known as “left-behind children” 

However, we didn’t feel unhappy like the left-behind children do today. We were proud of being born in a wall  rendering worker’s family.

Young and innocent as we are, we didn’t know how hard our fathers worked on the construction site!

Get up earlier than roosters and slept later than dogs.

Bad environment and longtime working with back bent down make the workers overdrawn both physically and  mentally. Most of them 

suffer occupational diseases at an early age but they are reluctant to spend the hard earned money on  treatment.

My fathers work day and night to earn very little money to support the whole family. Sometimes, they even got  cheated by the contractors and 

could not get the hard earned money.

Every time our fathers got home, they brought candies for us. However, they cherished every cent on the  construction site and would not 

buy a bottle of water when they were thirsty.

We slept on big comfortable beds at home while they slept on the boards at construction sites.

No matter in summer or winter, hot or cold, they work day after day, year after year; no one knows when all  of this will come to an end......

The tall buildings rise up one by one while the wall rendering workers are getting old with unbearable  sufferings.

They are the builders of the city and make great contribution to the society, but they lead poor life, as the  low class of the society.

Do you still remember the hands that used to rise up you and me?

Now I am grown up. I swear I will do something to relieve the sufferings of wall rendering workers like my father,  to make the workers work 

more efficiently and easily.

With ten years hard working, we succeed finally. And Now, 5th, Jan, at the beginning of the new year 2015,  I’d like to share good news with 

those who were born in a wall rendering worker’s family! .
